Places to Stay in Fort William

Fort William, with a population of around 10,000, is the second largest settlement in the Scottish Highlands behind Inverness. Set against the dramatic backdrop of Ben Nevis, it’s a major tourist attraction all year round, drawing hillwalkers and climbers as well as winter sports enthusiasts during the colder months to the nearby Nevis Range gondola and ski centre. For over ten years the town has hosted rounds of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup, frequently attracting crowds into five figures.

Fort William is also a very convenient stopover point, for instance for those travelling onwards taking the ‘Road to the Isles’ to Mallaig and the Isle of Skye. It boasts a very good range of bars and restaurants, as well as supermarkets and a bustling High Street.
